What We Say:

The constant members of Locas In Love are Stefanie Schrank, Björn Sonnenberg and Jan Niklas Jansen. The band however is joined by different drummers as they switch off between performing in their native Germany and in the United States. While at home, Christian Schneider of Grafzhal plays with them, while in the United States Brooklyn’s finest Sam Lazzara of The Leader plays his part. The origins of this unique band name are not a mystery as it naturally comes from a Hernandez Brothers book entitled Love & Rockets.

The band’s album “Winter” is a collection of seasonal songs, inspired by the great pop tradition of Christmas albums. The full length album was intended to be a single or an EP but once the band started, they could not help but create a whole concept album. The recordings took place in Sonnenberg’s and Schrank’s shared flat in Cologne, Germany as well as in the house of Julie and Sam of The Leader in Brooklyn, NY. Julie and Sam were accompanied in their contributions to the album by L.D. Beghtol, Kyle Resnick, and many others.

“This band wowed pretty much everyone in attendance during their live U.S. debut at the New England Popfest, so it’s not surprise that I really like this disc. They’ve had a handful of cd and vinyl releases in their native Germany over the last several years, and this is the newest of the bunch. Their music fits somewhere in between David & The Citizens and The Pixies (at least, in spirit), but with a little more indie pop influence. Björn handles most of the lead vocal duties, but Stefanie comes to the front for “Zum Beispiel Ein Unfall.” The lyrics are in German, but their sense of humor is not lost on those who do not speak the language, courtesy of song titles like “Avoid Karmic Disaster (Get Your Punishment Now)” and “No Mr. Bond, I Expect You To Die.” I am not entirely sure if this is a teaser for their forthcoming album or a standalone EP, but either way, it’s excellent!” – Indiepages.com
