Engine Room is back with another installment of our covers compilation series Guilt By Association. The Guilt By Association concept is easy, we ask artists to cover songs that one could call a guilty pleasure, but the catch is we all love these songs guilt free! Past volumes included tracks by Devendra Banhart, Will Oldham, Superchunk, My Brightest Diamond, Matt Pond PA, and Frightened Rabbit covering artists such as Mariah Carey, My Chemical Romance, Ace of Base and Destiny’s Child.

On Guilt By Association Volume 3 we’ve gone one step further and added a theme within this theme. For this newest installment all the songs had to be plucked from everyone’s favorite genre, 80’s hair metal! Vol. 3 features Helmet covering Loudness, Mike Viola tackling Ratt, Madison Square Gardeners doing Poison, Canon Logic taking on Cinderella and Bird of Youth covering Skid Row. GBA 2 Release Parties Announced!

We’re lucky to be celebrating this record twice at two of the best venues in the City!

The first one is at Music Hall of Williamsburg (see the beautiful flyer below that was hand painted by Engine Room’s own Joyce Chan) on Saturday January 31st. The night features Robbers On High Street, Jukebox The Ghost, Takka Takka and Lowry. Plus we have some prizes to hand out and free chocolates courtesy of Brooklyn’s own The Mast Brothers (while supplies last)

Then on Thursday February 5th we are at Bowery Ballroom with Francis and the Lights, Savoir Adore and The Bloodsugars!

Guilt By Association Vol. 2 Is Here!

Folks, it’s time! Guilt By Association Vol. 2 is here. Pitchfork just announced its release and hits the nail on the head! For round two, the comp seems to have evolved from a collection of covers of guilty pleasures to an unabashed celebration of pop, probably since nobody should ever feel ashamed for liking something (unless that something is Ted Nugent in 2008). Bringing the Guilt to Parkside Lounge

We kicked off our first Guilt By Association show last night at Parkside Lounge in Manhattan’s lower east side. It was freezing out but the room still filled up and we were treated to sets by Lara Ewen, Bryan Dunn and ERR’s own Goat. It was great fun and how can you not enjoy yourself when Def Leopard gets busted out. Congrats to Dan Berns from Chicago for getting the most answers right in our guilty pop culture trivia contest….I guess it pays to know all about the Spice Girls after all.

So that’s the First Thursday of every month at Parkside Lounge. The next show is February 6th where we’ll have comedian Nick Cobb, singer/songwriter Derek James and ERR’s Porter Block. Hope to see you there!
